Recipe: Chocolate Covered Bananas

Saturday afternoon I decided to make frozen chocolate covered bananas.  They are such a yummy treat & are relatively health too!  I had recently brought a Concord Foods Banana Pops kit at the grocery store, but you could easily make them without the kit.
With kit-
Ingredients:
4 medium size bananas
8 wooden popsicle sticks (included)
1 pouch chocolate (included)

Instructions:
-Peel bananas, & cut in half.  You will have 8 halves total.
-Insert 1 stick into each banana half.
-Put bananas into the freezer, & leave them in there for 1 hour.
-After an hour has passed place sealed bag of chocolate into a bowl filled with very hot tap water, & leave for 4 minutes.
-When contents are melted, shake bag well.
-Cut the corner of the bag & pour the melted chocolate into a short cup.
-Remove bananas from freezer, dip frozen bananas into chocolate until mostly covered.
-Set bananas on a plate covered with parchment paper.
-You can serve immediately or place in plastic bag & store in freezer.

Without kit-
Ingredients:
4 medium size bananas
8 wooden popsicle sticks
3 chocolate bars

Instructions:
-Peel bananas, & cut in half.  You will have 8 halves total.
-Insert 1 stick into each banana half.
-Put bananas into the freezer, & leave them in there for 1 hour.
-After an hour has passed break up the chocolate bars & put in a short microwavable cup.
-Microwave chocolate in 30 second intervals, taking out to mix after each interval.  Chocolate is very sensitive watch carefully so you don't burn it.
-Remove bananas from freezer, dip frozen bananas into chocolate until mostly covered.
-Set bananas on a plate covered with parchment paper.
-Place plate in freezer & allow chocolate to set.
-Once they set if you are not using all at once, place in plastic bag & store in freezer.

I had a lot of fun making these & you could do it with so many other fruits as well!  While the kit was great I think next time I am just going make them with Hershey's chocolate because Hershey's is my favorite.  Aside from a snack these would be great for parties & are a great treat for both kids & adults!

Have you ever done this?  What is your favorite chocolate covered fruit?

  5. I love chocolate covered bananas (and strawberries, mmm...)! It's the perfect treat to curb those cravings for pure chocolate-and the mix of the two is just right! I love adding some nuts, too!
