Beauty Confessional

|  ONE  |
I confess that in middle school it took me quite some time to get the hang of mascara.  I tried so many different brands before I could finally get it right and figure out how to stop it from constantly getting under my eyes.

|  TWO  |
I confess that I've always been fascinated with beauty products.  I have a distinct memory from when I was younger (maybe 3 or 4) of stealing my mother's bright pink Revlon lipstick and attempting to put it on, I instead ended up putting it on and all around my mouth and I had pink lipstick stains for a few days.

|  THREE  |
I confess that I have a have a fear of curling irons due to a childhood accident.  When I was little I used to love to watch my Mom get ready; one night she had the curling iron laying on the back of the toilet, I did not know this and climbed onto the toilet (which had the seat down) to sit and watch her do her makeup, I slipped, began to fall, and grabbed for something to hold onto, I instead grabbed the hot curling iron.  I had no skin on my hand for a long time and to this day curling irons still freak me out.

|  FOUR  |
I confess that in middle school I would also put like ten different products in my hair, none of which I needed.  I now cringe when I think of how many things I was putting in my hair - including hair spray when it was still wet so gross.

|  FIVE  |
I confess that I have a seriously bad beauty product hoarding issue.  I have so many random half used bottles of different products that I need to start using up and stop buying more.

Any beauty confessions of your own?  I would love to hear them in the comments below!

SAG Awards 2015 Gowns

I always feel like after the Golden Globes the SAG gowns are a bit disappointing, I think this is because I always seem to have quite a few less 'favorites' then I do for the Globes.  However, today I do have my best dressed list here for you.  All of the ladies below looked absolutely stunning and leave me excited to see what is to come for award show red carpets.

Reese Witherspoon in Armai  |  Felicity Jones in Balenciaga  |  Maria Menounos in Romona Kaveza

Camila Alves in Donna Kara Atelier  |  Sophia Bush in Vivienne Westwood  |  Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture

Emmy Rossum in Armani Privé  |  Naomi Watts in Balenciaga  |  Sarah Hyland in Vera Wang

Sofia Vergara in Donna Karan  |  Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting in Romona Kaveza  |  Alysia Reiner in Christian Siriano

Which gowns were your favorite?

Looks I Love Lately

Whether hitting a red carpet or running between interviews celebrities almost always look amazing. One of my favorite things is to see what celebrities are wearing wherever they happen to be; this is a great way to spot trends, see different ways to wear pieces, and get a little outfit inspiration.  Over the past few weeks several celebs have been wearing many chic looks, and today I have my five favorites.

1. Jennifer Lopez in Dior in New York City
I fell in love with this coat the moment I saw it, it is jus so incredibly gorgeous!  The fur on the coat is the perfect J.Lo touch.  Furthermore, the combination of the winter white and monochromatic palette make for a very glamorous look.  Finally to finish it off Lopez's hair and skin are perfection as usual.

2. Sophia Bush in DSquared2 at the NBC Universal Press Tour in Pasadena, CA
Sophia Bush is sexy yet classy in this midi dress; the fit of the dress is what brings the sexy, but the hemline makes for a more demure look.  The rich emerald color is striking and looks great on Sophia.  She finishes her look with simple accessories, which allows the dress to really take center stage.  I would love a look like this for an evening wedding or dressy party.

3. Jennifer Aniston in Giambattista Valli at the premiere of Cake in Los Angelos
I absolutely love when Jennifer surprises us by stepping away from her signature all black ensembles.  This dress is über feminine with the delicate floral print, lace, and the bow at the neckline, however the leather detailing at the waist and cutout give it some edge.  Jennifer also stepped out of her comfort zone when it came to her hairstyle with a perfectly imperfect ponytail.  Her style risks (for her!) really paid off and created a beautiful look.

4. Emmy Rossum in Ralph Lauren at Carbon38 Second Anniversary Party in Hollywood
I love it when navy is used in place of black because it is just as classic, but a bit unexpected.  Emmy's look is sweet and girly, and could be worn to a variety of places.  This look is perfect to show that simplicity is always in style.

5. Ashley Tisdale in Monique Lhuillier at the Nine Zero One Launch in Los Angelos
I am a huge fan of jumpsuits and am especially loving this delicate lace one that Tisdale is wearing.  She lets the jumpsuit to be the focus by keeping her accessories minimal.  I particularly like the way her single strap heels punctuate the look.

Which celeb looks are you loving?

23 Wishes for 23 Years

To help me ring in the big 2-3 I have my most favorite fairy princess and blogging bestie Jordyn from The Fairy Princess Diaries.  I have been so lucky to make such an incredible friend through blogging who is gorgeous both inside and out.  Over the past few months Jordyn has been an amazing friend and confidant, and I am so happy to have her here today.  Thank you Jordyn for always being there to listen to me, have frequent Twitter chats about Taylor Swift, and more.  You're the best!  Everyone make sure to check out The Fairy Princess Diaries, you will love it!
stay sassy,
Kristin

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today Kristin turns 23. The thing about 23 is that it feels scary to a good portion of the population (that is anyone under 23) but still seems young to the vast majority of the world (that is everyone over 23). As a child I used to imagine my life as a grown up. I imagined an amazingly fulfilling job (as a dolphin trainer and teacher and singer obviously). I imagined a perfect husband (because clearly I would have found true love and been married by 23 already) and I imagined living in the real life equivalent of Barbie's Dreamhouse because in my mind by 23 I could afford that. With each passing year I started to realize that 23 doesn't necessarily look the way I envisioned it to at age 8. 23 doesn't automatically come with a fairytale romance (hello Tinder dates...) or lavish apartment (see also my carpets are stained and I don't know why) or grown up career (why yes I did graduate college and yet I'm still working as a nanny, it's cool). 23 isn't about having it all together and in that sense it's a lot like 22 (happy, free, confused and lonely at the same time). 23 leaves a lot to be desired: how do I balance a diet of all take out while still saving enough money for cute Tory Burch flats? How do normal people work 40 hours a week and still have time to do their laundry? Why does life at 23 look so much easier on Gossip Girl than it does for me? 23 is pretty weird.

Kristin hits the perfect balance of embracing the weirdness of 22 while also offering a sense of classy maturity beyond her years; I have a feeling she's going to do a pretty stellar job with 23 as well. I met Kristin through blogging and penpal letters and eventually we started texting (on the daily). Kristin is an amazing daughter, sorority sister, student, blogger and the role I most closely associate her, a perfect friend. Kristin is intelligent and girly and vibrant and fun. She's level headed and a bit sassy. She's the friend who can help you pick out the perfect outfit for your hot date and is there the next day to comfort you because you realized your hot date was a total jerk. Kristin is the friend that will chew out your ex boyfriend's Mom when she leaves a catty comment on your blog. I don't have any experience with this...but I know that if the situation were to arise...Kristin would be all over it (;

23 is awkward. 23 is liberating. 23 is horrifying. 23 is magical! Happy 23rd Birthday Kristin! Let's all sip champagne and toast to enjoying awkward ages filled with Tinder dates and sticky frat walls with the realization that soon enough we will move past them but always let us keep the doe eyed exuberance for life that allows us to keep dancing like we're 22.

23 wishes copy

Here are 23 wishes I have for Kristin for the next 365 days:

1. I hope you receive more puppy kisses from Coco Chanel than you really know how to handle.

2. May your hair always fall in the perfect Blake Lively fashion especially on the mornings you wake up late and end up sitting next to the cutest guy in class.

3. May your shoe collection grow plentiful but not as plentiful as the loved ones surrounding you.

4. I hope your lips never get chapped but if they do I hope you have the perfect sugar lip scrub to turn a bad thing into a mini spa treatment.

5. On days that it's snowy I hope your favorite cozy sweater is clean and you'll be able to accessorize with a chic blanket scarf.

6. On days when it rains I hope you don't get caught on campus in your cute new flats.

7. And when the sun shines I hope you can bask in its beauty without worrying about finals or papers or stupid boys who don't text back.

8. But when you are forced to deal with stupid boys (which inevitably you will be) I hope you're able to channel Blair Waldorf worthy sass...

9. And the courage of Taylor Swift so you can move on, get over it and continue believing in love.

10. I hope that you'll win one of those gigantic blog giveaways with a huge cash prize or gift card to Nordstrom.

11. Of course you'll need to visit Seattle and spend the gift card at the flagship store which means a girls brunch and shopping day with me.

12. I wish only cute boys on you but I hope when creepy old men ask you to be their sugar baby you have the ability to laugh it off (and of course send me screen shots of everything they say).

13. May all your cupcakes be red velvet and all your baking experiences be as chic as those of Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss.

14. And you might as well be gifted with all of the fancy lingerie they rocked at the Victoria's Secret fashion show right?!

15. I hope your spotted on the beach and asked to walk at the Victoria's Secret Fashion show next year (and maybe you bring me with you).

16. If you should fall in love, I hope your man treats you well and may his Mother treat you even better (#NoCrazies).

17. And if you don't fall in love I hope you fall even more in love with yourself, because that's more important in the long run anyway.

18. May you find the perfect shade of lipstick and a signature cocktail.

19. And may many fabulous opportunities arise for you to adorn yourself in jewels and pretty dresses.

20. May you never lose sight of the necessity of a night in spent practicing curling your hair and binging on netflix instead of going out.

21. I hope your year is filled with friendship and good health and overwhelming happiness.

22. And I hope Taylor Swift stumbles across your blog and sends you cookies and homemade paintings.

23. My wish is that at 23 you can maintain the same youthful spirit that allowed you to dance maniacally and happily at 22.

My Blogger Bestie's Birthday

Twenty three years ago Saturday, the seventeenth of January nineteen hundred and ninety two, the prettiest fairy princess in all the land was born, and that fairy princess is Jordyn.  Since today is my most lovely blogger bestie's birthday, I am taking over for her today while she celebrates in the most fabulous of ways as only a fairy princess would.

Since I sadly live quite far from Jordyn and am unable to spend her birthday with her, here are the six most amazing presents I want to give to her.

Every fairy princess needs a giant bouquet of the prettiest flowers around.  Pink peonies make everything special and every birthday must be extra special.

What drink is more fabulous than champagne?  Nothing.  Therefore a little or a lot pop, fizz, and clink is a must have for Jordyn's big day.

To celebrate her birthday Jordyn deserves an epic Gossip Girl-esque weekend in the best city in the world (sorry not sorry Seattle).  A stop at Sprinkles to get excessive amounts of cupcakes would be made and a there would be a birthday picnic in Central Park.  A trip to Tiffany and Co.'s flagship store would also be a necessity.

Before we head to New York we would have to partake in an epic shopping spree at Nordstrom's Flagship (see, I do love Seattle!).  This way Jordyn can get tons of Tory Burch and whatever else her fashionable heart desires.

The ultimate Starbucks Fairy Princess needs to have all the delicious Starbucks drinks she could ever want.  I know the chance to win free Starbucks for life ended at Christmas, but I'm sure I can use my persuasive skills (I took Theories of Persuasion last semester) to write a very convincing letter to the execs at Starbucks who would happily send her one of those handy little cards.

For the biggest Taylor Swift fan around, bringing Taylor Swift would be the present to give Jordyn.  We would then promptly make Taylor bake cookies with us, while singing all of 1989 and discussing boys.  Maybe she'd even want to join our Nordstrom shopping spree and New York girls weekend?  I think she would.

I've got to go now and figure out how I am going to get all of these fabulous presents in my suitcase and get to Seattle from Pennsylvania today.  While I'm working on the doing all of that please make sure to wish the my most favorite pretty princess a very happy birthday!
