Spring Sephora Sale

Sephora's Spring Beauty Event kicked off yesterday and like any good Sephora addict I've been waiting (not so) patiently for this for a while now!  I like to use Sephora's biyearly beauty events (where you get 15%-20% off your entire purchase if you're a Beauty Insider) to stock up on things I use throughout the year and to try some new products.  Since I've been waiting on this you can bet that I've had a list ready for some time now (#TypeA) and have everything together to make my purchase.  Here I have for you everything I'll be purchasing at the sale - both the new and the old standbys, and I'm breaking it down below.  (By the way if you're planning on shopping the sale yourself make sure to read this post which tells you how to get the most out of your Sephora shopping trips.)

I am really big on exfoliation and think that it's one of the most important things you can do for your skin.  I like to have both chemical and physical exfoliators (learn about the difference here) on hand and I tried this chemical one a few months ago when I got a deluxe size sample from Sephora.  It made my skin so soft and glowy that I knew I needed to get it when this sale came around.

I tried this when I got a deluxe size sample of it from Sephora (man, I'm really a sucker for those) and I talked about it in this post.  This mask uses honey, royal jelly, propolis, and Farmacy's Echinacea GreenEnvy to hydrate, gently cleanse, and provide antioxidants to your skin.  I've also found that it has even helped to clear up my skin when I'm having a breakout and it just makes my skin look great.

I love Sunday Riley's products and was so excited when they released their newest moisturizer.  It hydrates the skin and provides it with a dose of high-potency, advanced vitamin C.  The vitamin C works to "visibly repair the effects of aging, environmental stress, and pollution-induced damage."  This moisturizer is high in antioxidants and will also help to brighten skin.  I was able to get a small sample of this to try before I buy and I loved it just as much as I thought I would.

Sephora carries these little mask minis from Origins that are perfect little two or three use packets.  I haven't tried this one before, but love this one and also have a few others in my arsenal right now.  With the warmer months coming up I like to have a purifying mask and this one gently, but deeply cleans, and refines texture and pores so I'm going to pick it up.

I am super picky about mascara, but am always a fan of the ones from Dior.  I started using this a few months ago and switched to something different for a little bit, but I missed this so much that I'm going back to using it!  The formula of this combined with the wand make it the perfect mascara for me.  This volumizes my lashes, stays put, and never gets clumpy.

This mascara is made for your bottom lashes and is the only mascara that actually stays on my bottom lashes and doesn't wipe off underneath my eyes.  I started using this a year ago and I don't think I can ever not use it again, it's that good.  If you have trouble with mascara and your bottom lashes this is a must have.

I have been using this brow gel for a while, but I don't like how it makes my brows feel and look a little crunchy.  I did a ton of research on brow gels because I want one that leaves my brows soft and think that this one will give me the results I want.  I will definitely report back on how I like this once I get it.

I've used the Clarisonic Deep Pore Brush Heads for as long as I've had my Clarisonic and recently switched to the Radiance Brush Head.  While I liked the Deep Pore brush I'm liking the results from the Radiance one even more.  It really does make your skin radiate and I feel like it gives me that "glow" I'm always after.

I've talked about this countless times on here and the bottom line is in my opinion I think these are the best.  They use lactic and glycolic acids to gently exfoliate, and lemon peel and licorice root to brighten skin.  I use them morning and night and notice a big difference in my skin if I forget to use them.

I never realized how important a setting spray is until I tried Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray.  I recieved a deluxe sample of it in my December PLAY! by Sephora box and now I feel like my makeup isn't complete without it.  My only complaint about it was that it left my skin a little too matte and feeling dry, but Chill is a hydrating version of it, which I think will be better for my skin type.

This set contains Sunday Riley Good Genes and Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil.  These are two holy grail products for me and I love that I can buy them in a set and save money.  Luna is a retinoid oil that moisturizes, shrinks pores, reduces wrinkles, calms redness, and improves skin smoothness.  Good Genes is a pharmaceutical-grade, lactic-acid-based treatment that works to exfoliate, plump fine lines, reduce hyperpigmentation, increase circulation, and firm skin for instant radiance.  I layer Good Genes on top of the Luna Sleeping Oil for seriously amazing skin.

I'm also in need of a new physical exfoliant because my favorite one has (sadly) been discontinued.  Again I did some research (because I'm a beauty nerd) and decided to try this.  It works to gently exfoliate and dissolve dead skin cells, refine pores, and more.  It also got amazing reviews on Sephora's website which really sold me on it.

I'm a skincare fanatic (which I'm sure you can tell from this post) and do not like to wear a ton of makeup, which makes BB and CC creams perfect for me.  I decided to try the It Cosmetics CC Cream a few months back after hearing so many wonderful reviews.  I am so glad I gave this a try because I love how it works and this will be my second bottle of it.  I'm such a big fan that I got my Mom and sister hooked on it too.

My skin is really dry so I love to use gentle (and non drying) micellar water in the morning to cleanse my skin.  I was using a drugstore brand when I got this as a deluxe size sample from a Sephora Beauty Rewards kit and had great results from it.  It feels super luxe and it does a great job of cleaning my skin and helping to prep it for moisturizer and makeup.

In addition to these I will also be grabbing some sheet masks.  My favorite sheet masks include this, this, this, and this.  While some of the new ones I want to try are this, this, this, and this.  Last but not least I need a gift for Mother's Day and have a few ideas that I could grab from Sephora, but I can't share them on here since my Mom reads along (hi Mom!).

Simple Eye Makeup Tips and Tutorial

Hey y’all!  First of all, let me introduce myself.  My name is Sara Drury and I am a makeup artist and hairstylist with a passion for teaching women how to do their makeup like pros (even when they're not).  I am so excited to be doing a guest post for the lovely Kristin, what an honor and a privilege.

Since she has trusted me to write for her, I wanted to make sure I gave you some really good and fun tips!

Today I’m going to teach you one of my favorite summer eye makeup looks as well as give you some great tips on how to make your eye makeup last…even in these dog days of summer!



To start, here are my top three summer eye makeup tips:
  
1.   Wear an eye primer
Eye primer is a game changing product. It will help your eyeshadow go on more smoothly, keep it from creasing, and also make it last all day long!  A cool pro tip is to put just a little bit on your lower lashline, too, that way your eyeliner won’t run!  Try it, it’s awesome!

2.   Use a pop of color.
 I really like to use a colorful eyeliner either in the water line (like I’ve done here) or just on the bottom lashline.  My favorites are blues or purples, but use whatever color you love!
  
3.   Waterproof liner is magic.
Waterproof eyeliner is amazing for hot summer days!  If you're out in the heat makeup can tend to slide around a lot especially when it's really hot out.  Below are some waterproof eyeliners that I love (and they come in fun colors, win/win!):

I also promised to teach you a fun and simple eye makeup look, so here is the step by step of exactly how to do it!

Step 1: Start by priming your eyes!  Like I said above this is the #1 way to help apply your eye makeup and make it last longer.

Step 2: Take a shimmery light color eyeshadow (like MAC Eye Shadow in All That Glitters, or Makeup Geek Eyeshadow in Shimma Shimma) and sweep it all over your eyelid.

Step 3: Next, using a waterproof pencil in the color of your choice gently line your waterline (or bottom lashline).

Step 4: Add black eyeliner on the top lashline to help thicken the look of your lashes.

Step 5: Put on lots and lots of mascara and you’re all set!

What's in My: Makeup Bag

I haven't shared what I keep in my makeup bag in quite some time!  Since the last time I did share my makeup routine has almost entirely changed.  I feel like my makeup has matured with me and I'm much better at doing it now.  I've learned so many new tips and have been using some products I really love.  At this point I have my everyday look pretty set, but I love to experiment with makeup when I'm going out or shooting pictures for here.  I've been thinking about expanding makeup posts on here recently and figured this was the perfect place to start!  I may have some more makeup posts and even a surprise in the upcoming weeks and months.

Below I'm breaking down and giving you all the details on everything in my makeup bag.


EYES

Urban Decay Naked2 Palette- The colors in this palette are so versatile and can easily create countless different looks.  I also really love the consistency, wearability, and staying power of Urban Decay's eyeshadows.

Lilly Pulitzer for Estée Lauder Pure Color EyeShadow- This is the palette I grab if I'm going somewhere for the weekend and don't want to bring a lot.  It has a few neutral shades, as well as a few bold shades, which means I can do a lot of different looks with it.  The shadows are richly pigmented and nicely compliment each other.

SEPHORA COLLECTION NY Palette- Jordyn got me this for Christmas and it's such a fun palette!  It has three brown shadows and a gorgeous silver one.  The silver is my favorite in the palette and I love wearing it when I'm going out!

Lancôme Eye Brightening All-In-One 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Taupe Craze- I recently got this when I purchased a lipstick from Lancôme.  I haven't had the chance to use it yet, but the colors are gorgeous and have the most beautiful shimmer.  This palette is not only intended to be used as eyeshadow, but as eyeliner too.

shu uemura Eyelash Curler- This is the ultimate eye lash curler and has a cult following.  It has a great pad and gives the "perfect curl."

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original- Another product with a cult following this is the best eyeshadow primer I've ever used.  I've tried a few different brands and I go back to this again and again.  I've been using it for 8 or 9 years now and plan to use it for many more.

Dior Diorshow Mascara- This is another product with a cult following and has reached holy grail status for many people.  This mascara is known for it's large brush, which is something I love.  It has great color and wearability and I also love the way it smells!

Benefit Cosmetics Stay Don't Stray in Light/Medium- I use this for two reasons, first as a primer for under eye concealer and second as a concealer on my eyelids.  I primarily use this for the first reason mentioned and it does an amazing job of holding my concealer in place.  When I use it on my eyelids I use it over the Primer Potion because it does not hold eyeshadow as well as it does concealer; I use it to give a nice even color to my otherwise veiny eyelids.

COVERGIRL Professional Natural Lash in Clear- I use this as a brow gel.  I've been using this for over ten years and it does a great job of making sure my brows are all in place and look great.

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara in Black- I've written about this a lot recently on here because it is amazing.  Read more about why I love it so much here.

COVERGIRL Intensify Me! Liquid Liner in Intense Black- COVERGIRL sent this to me a few months back before it was launched and I've been using it since then.  I love liquid liner and this one is okay, not my favorite, but for now it does the job.

Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony- I also got this when I purchased a lipstick from Lancôme.  I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like a very dark black and I can't wait to try it.

FACE

Urban Decay Naked Illuminated in Luminous- I've recently started using this and have completely fallen in love with it.  It is the most gorgeous shimmer powder that looks great on my skin.  Read more about why I love this here.

tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess- This is another new product and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.  You can read more about my thoughts on it here.

Benefit Cosmetics Coralista Powder Blush- I haven't been using this as much recently because I purchased the blush below.  I did use this for a few years though and it gives a gorgeous coral/bronze color; however, I wasn't thrilled with its wearability, which is why I didn't repurchase it.

tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Glisten- This is the blush I have been using and I'm really happy with it so far.  It has much better wearability and it's a beautiful color.  Read more about my thoughts on this here.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water in Fair- I've been using this for a few months now and I like it, but I don't love it.  The girl at Sephora told me that it would be super moisturizing, but I don't find it to be as moisturizing as I would like.  Also I feel like it kind of just sits on top of my skin and I don't get the benefits from a BB Cream I was looking for from it.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer- I use this when I know I'm going to have a long day or night.  I put it over my BB Cream and under my concealer to help concealer stay in place.

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder- I use this to set my under eye concealer; it helps to make it stay put and brightens the area.  This has been a favorite of mine for quite some time and you can read more about it here.

Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Concealer in 01-Light- This industrial strength concealer covers up everything from dark circles under my eyes to blemishes to any irritations.  I recommend using it with a concealer brush to blend everything for a natural look.

Benefit Cosmetics Watt's Up! Highlighter- I use this to highlight areas on my face where the light hits.  I love to layer it under Urban Decay Naked Illuminated on the tops of my cheekbones for a gorgeous look.

LIPS

Lancôme Color Design Lipcolor in Trendy Mauve- This is a pretty nude that's perfect for spring and summer.

Lancôme Color Design Matte Lip Crayon in Drive to Pink- This is a beautiful electric pink that is so much fun for the warmer weather.  It has a nice matte finish and I will be wearing it all summer.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella- This is my go to red lipstick.  I'm obsessed with NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils for their rich pigments and great staying power.

NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien- This is my favorite pink neutral lip color and it really enhances a natural makeup look.

Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Woo Me- This lip gloss is a fun pink color; it is more pigmented then most lip glosses and has a tasteful shine to it.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry- This cult product looks much darker in the tube, but applies lighter.  It is a dark cherry and is one of my go to lipsticks for fall and winter.
COVERGIRL LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Frosted Cherry Twist- This moisturizing balm adds a nice wash of color in a warm pink shade.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lip Liner- I line my lips and then fill them in with this colorless liner before putting lipstick on.  This keeps lipstick in place and helps to prevent it from bleeding.

Not Pictured: 
NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu- I have momentarily misplaced this so I wasn't able to take a picture of it.  It is a dark plum color and is my absolute favorite lipstick for all year round!
