Celebrity Style Obsession: Kiernan Shipka

So
So is it weird to envy a 14 year old's style? I don't think it is when said 14 year old is the ridiculously chic Kiernan Shipka. This girl has a better sense of style in her preteens/early teens then most women have in their whole lives. She has managed to strike a balance between having style, but being age appropriate, which is something that I believe is difficult to attain for a girl her age. She is always impeccably dressed no matter the occasion and hits all the right notes. As she grows Kiernan's looks continue to get better and I cannot wait to watch her style continue to evolve. This girl is definitely a style star to watch. Here are some of my favorite looks that the young starlet has rocked.

Which of Kiernan's looks are your favorites?

What to Know About Transferring by Sprinkles & Sundresses

Today I have a post for you from Jenny at Sprinkles & Sundresses!  I'm thrilled to have a fellow Alpha Gam doing a blog post for me while I was supposed to be in Greece.  Jenny is such a sweetheart and has an awesome blog.  Read here for a little more info on how we met and a blog swap we did a few months back.  I'm really excited to share Jenny's post with you today because it is on a topic that she knows well and is something that I could not write about, so I love that I get to bring you guys something so different!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh hey friends! It's Jenny from Sprinkles & Sundresses and I am so happy to be visiting Kristin's blog again. I just finished my sophomore year of college- at my second college. I have an entire series on my blog about my transfer experience and you can find that here

I spent all of last summer deciding to transfer and then stressing out about whether or not it was the right decision. So when Kristin suggested that I write a list of things transfer students should know, I thought it was a fantastic idea!

Day 1 at my new school.

1. Yes, it is going to be difficult.
Transferring is freaking hard. You feel like a freshman all over again (and who wants that?) meanwhile the people your age already know each other so they aren't looking for friends like you are. It takes time and patience to meet people.

2. You need to put yourself out there.
Part of that meeting people requires that you join things and volunteer for things- lots of things. You won't stick with everything but it is super helpful to meet more people- even if you only get to know them well enough to say hi when you pass each other on campus.

3. Different schools are more different than you can imagine.
I knew I was going to a much smaller school. I knew the culture would be different. I didn't know that the smaller class sizes would make such a big difference in the learning experience. Even if you think you are going to a relatively similar school, they will have different traditions, different atmospheres, different everything. It can be hard not to constantly compare the two but you have to try. Focus on moving on rather than comparison.

4. Be prepared to explain why you transferred a million times.
And if your actual reason is too personal- prepare a response that you are comfortable sharing. Because they will ask. Over and over and over again.

5. You will miss some things.
As a part of those differences, you will find that there are parts of your previous school that you miss. You have to remember that that is okay. But you also have to remember why you left- because you had your reasons. You can be happy that you left and still want to go back and visit.

6. Go all in.
The best thing you can do for yourself is commit. Try new things. Stay positive. And be patient. My second semester was very different from my first semester.

And who knows? You might get to do something awesome like meet Aaron Carter.

If you are transferring or thinking about transferring and would like to talk to me, I am here for you!

I would also love to hear from you regardless, so come visit me!

An Easy Summer Look

I am all about summertime now.  The weather in Greece was amazing, the only day it rained was when I left (not my favorite way to fly, but thankfully it didn't cause an issue!) and it has me wishing that the weather in NJ would follow suit.  The forecast has rain until Saturday, but I'm hoping that after that it will brighten up and actually start to feel like the correct season.  This summer I am looking to wear very easy looks - soft shorts, billowy tops, and the like; just all over comfy chic.  Before jetting off I picked up several pairs of soft high waist shorts (these in black/white and ikat, these, theseand these)  to bring along with me and became obsessed with them.  Here I've put together a look with another pair that I love to showcase my new summer uniform.

Easy Summer Look

Top  |  Shorts  |  Sandals  |  Earrings  |  Necklace  |  Ring

I love the pale pink in these shorts and that I found the top and earrings to match the color perfectly.  If I had these pieces I would wear this look every day I love it so much!  Just kidding that would be gross, but you get the idea.  This top is so pretty and has an awesome cut out back that you have to check out.  I would style the look by tucking it into the shorts.  This is a simple chic look that you can throw on for to wear so many different places and it looks like you put a lot more effort into the look then you did.  You can also add heels and different jewelry (like chandelier earrings) to dress it up more or for a nighttime look.  This is just an overall great look that will carry you through the whole season!

What do you think of this look?  Have you picked up any chic shorts lately?

I'm Home

So the title of my post may have you a bit confused.  Right now I'm supposed to be in Greece, emphasis on supposed to be.  Unfortunately last Tuesday I had to make the trip from Santorini home.  There is a part of my life that I have never shared on this blog before and it is the reason I had to come home.  I have a lot of health problems.  I have been working on a post about my health for months now, but I never get around to finishing it or decide that it needs to be rewritten or just decide that I'm still not ready to share.  It's something that is such a huge part of my 'real life' that I almost don't want to bring it into this life because this is an escape for me.

My health issues are not something I can escape from though as is evident in the fact that I had to come home from Greece.  I like that in blogland though it's something that I don't have to worry about or explain to everyone or have effect everything I do.  However, I do know that at some point it is something I am going to share on here, it's just a matter of me deciding when.

At the end of last year I wrote a post about what I wanted to do here in 2014; #5 on that list was to "Get More Personal" and when I wrote that I was talking about sharing the health problems I deal with every day.  In my everyday life I am an open book about these issues because it's not a secret or something that I treat as one.  However, here I have just chosen to omit that part of my life as a way to take a break from it.  I have decided though that I really want to share this part of my life because if it can help just one person, or make just one person better understand what living with chronic health issues is like, or even if it's just a good outlet for me to talk about everything than it is all worth it.

In the next few weeks my blog is turning 1 (which I am so excited for!) and I think that this anniversary is going to force me/give me the courage to open up and share with all of you.  My discussion of my health issues will most likely be a one time or rarely mentioned thing, as I like having this space that is separate from all of it.  I also feel like my wanting to talk about fashion, beauty, baking, crafting, and everything else I discuss on here is not really influenced by my health.  However, when I do write my post I do want people to feel free to ask questions if they have any, I don't mind (polite) curiosity, and if anyone needs any help or someone to talk to I am always here.

I apologize that this post is so vague, this is just something that is going to take a bit of time for me and I ask that you are patient.  Eventually everything will fall into place and kind of make sense, or at least I hope it will.

So now after all of my rambling let's get back to why I am in America and not Greece.  For one of my health conditions I take injectable medication that needs to be refrigerated at all times.  I needed three shots while in Greece, so my Dad ordered special ice packs from Australia (they're some new technology from a company he found) that remain cold for 24 hours at a time, to keep the medicine cold during the trip when I could not get to a refrigerator.  I packed my three shots and these special ice packs in my little Vera Bradley cooler (we've got to keep it cute!) for the trip there.  I made it through security and on the 10 hour plane ride plus extra travel time with them remaining cold.  I'm not going to lie it was a pain in the ass, but it all worked out.  When I got to our hotel in Athens my professor told me there was a mini fridge in my hotel room; well there was a mini fridge, but the problem was that mine was broken and at room temperature.  When I asked the professor what to do she said to go to the front desk and have them put them in the hotel's refrigerator (she assured me that they spoke English, and would understand everything).  I also needed to have the ice packs frozen for the next time we traveled and was told I could ask for that as well (with the ice packs, it was a thing where the longer they were in the freezer the better it would be next time you used them).  So I went to the front desk to explain my situation, I explained like a 15 different times that the shots had to go in the refrigerator and the ice packs in the freezer.  Well, a few days later when I went to get my shots I learned that the man I was dealing with did not actually speak English, or at least not a lot of it, because he took the shots and threw them in with the ice packs, and put them all in the freezer.

Needless to say I was completely panicked when I learned all of this because I did not know if the shots would be ok if they were frozen.  I called my Mom crying and she had to call the company that makes the shots (it was too expensive for me to call them from Greece so she had to do it for me).  Well of course all of this went down on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend and the company was unavailable (comforting, I know).  So I packed up my shots and took them on the ferry to Mykonos with me unsure of whether or not they were ok.  When we got to our hotel there I put them in the fridge in our room, since we had a working one this time.  That Tuesday when my Mom was finally able to get ahold of the company they told her that the shots were ruined, and that if I took them I would get sicker.

My parents tried everything they could and there was no way to get new shots to me; there was also no way for me to get the shots in Greece.  This is a very serious medication that if stopped I could develop even more health problems.  I needed to get the medication as soon as possible and basically had no options.  After countless hours of work on my Mom's end, lots of discussions with my doctors, and plenty of crying Skype calls, we decided that I had to come home.  I had to go a week past the date of my shot, and could feel myself getting sick.  In addition to that I had recently been having some issues with losing weight due to my health, which was not helping the situation.  I knew that if I did not come home I was going to land up in the hospital in Greece, which I really did not want.  My parents arranged everything and on Tuesday I woke up at 4 AM to begin my travels.  I flew from Santorini to Athens, and then from Athens to Philadelphia.  After about 20 hours of being awake and traveling I finally made it home.  On Wednesday I was able to get my shot, and felt it working the next day!

To be honest I am completely heartbroken that this all worked out the way it did.  However, I am choosing to look at the positives in all of this.  I have always wanted to go to Europe and I did it.  I got to see Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini, which was amazing.  I did things that I never would have had the opportunity to do otherwise and will probably not have the opportunity to do again.  I had an awesome two weeks and while I am very sad that I did not get the full six week experience I am proud that I was able to do what I got to do and that I did not let my health hold me back from trying the things that I did do.  I am a big believer in everything happens for a reason, so that is what I keep telling myself when I get a little down about this.

It's taken me almost a week to write this post because I have been needing some serious R&R since I've been home.  The last two weeks, all of the traveling, and jet lag really kicked my butt.  I've honestly been doing a lot of sleeping and just trying to readjust to everything.  In two weeks I took about 400 pictures and have been/am still working on going through them and editing them so they are all ready to post.  I have some awesome things to share with you guys from this trip that I am probably going to be spreading out over some time, but I have not yet decided yet how I am going to be doing this.  I also have some really great guest posts coming up that I cannot wait to share from some of my favorite bloggers who were so sweet and did posts for me for while I was supposed to be gone.

I'm not quite sure how to end what seems like the longest blog post ever!  I'm glad that I've written this all and now I feel like I'm a few steps closer to sharing some personal things in my life that I've been wanting to share for a while.  I'm just going to be taking baby steps, and I promise next time I will be less vague.  I'm going to head out now, but look forward to more regularly scheduled posts again, and all the fun details from my time in Greece.  This week I will definitely more like hopefully be getting back into my regular groove.

Lusting After: Single Strap Heels

Single strap heels have been seen all over the best dressed celebs lately. Pictured here are a small sampling of the many starlets that are rocking this trend, these pictures show how Darby Stanchfield, Blake Lively, and Kendall Jenner wear their shoes. The different way they style them show just how versatile they are.

This style is simplicity at its best: super chic and easy to wear. This is one of my favorite shoe styles because of just how pretty they look with everything. I've definitely been lusting over single strap heels for a while and really need to pick up a pair. Below are some of my favorite shoes that I've seen in this style.
Black  |  Leopard  |  Nude
Mint  |  Silver  |  Coral

I seriously want every pair here!  The black, nude, and silver are classics that can be worn with any outfit.  The mint and coral are so pretty for Spring and Summer, they are such pretty pastels for this time of year.  The leopard pair is super sexy and would be perfect to add a little pop to an outfit.  No matter which pair you pick, you will look super chic and on trend in this shoe style.

Which pair is your favorite?

What to Gift a 30 Something by Bailey Dailies

Hey pretties, today I have a post from the sweet Catherine of Bailey Dailies!  I love Catherine's blog and was so happy when she said she would do a post for me while I'm in Greece.  Without any further ado here is her awesome post and don't forget to stop by her blog when you're done here!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi guys! I am so excited to be posting for Kristin today! I blog over at Bailey Dailies about anything and everything. Travel (and how to do it for free!), recipes, entertaining tips, decorating ideas (and our new house), and lots and lots about me and my husband's crazy lives as a lawyer and a dentist in a small town.

Since I turned the big 3-0 this year, I thought I would share share a list of gift ideas that I think are appropriate for a girl around 30, that won't break your bank! It's hard to buy for someone who is 30+. I mean, they have probably everything that they need at this point in their lives. Really how many scarves, bags, and pieces of costume jewelry can one girl have? This list should help you find something great that will surprise her AND that she will actually use!

1. Things to Pamper Her
A day at the spa, or even just a gift certificate for a mani/pedi or massage are great gifts for any gal! Try to figure out the birthday girl's favorite place at which to be pampered, or let her try out a new place!
2. Gift Cards to Her Favorite Store
At a loss as to what to buy for the gal that has everything? A gift card is the BEST way to go. I promise. Lots of people think they are impersonal but I'd much rather have a gift card to my favorite store instead of something that I don't need that I have to deal with returning. This way the birthday girl can shop on her own time. I usually save a gift card for when I actually need something or I use it to buy something that I wouldn't ordinarily buy for myself.  You can get general gift cards that can be used anywhere or you can find them to her favorite store. Live far away? You can even email gift cards from many online stores! That way she doesn't even have to leave the house or office to get her shop on!

3. A Night Out on the Town
I'm realizing now that my first 3 suggestions all involve gift cards of some sort, but there is a reason for that. Let's think about 30 something women, shall we? They probably fall into several of the following categories: single, married, married with kids, working, stay at home mom. These ladies are usually on the go, whether with work, kids, or both, and their time is typically spoken for. A special night out on the town would be great for a lady in any of these categories. A gift certificate to a nice restaurant, one that she doesn't frequent often, is ideal. It gives her a reason to get fancied up and go out and celebrate herself. Plus, she can use it on her own time! You can also buy movie passes that can be used at any time! Also, check out her favorite singers, comedians, and sports teams to see if they have any events upcoming. Tickets would be a great surprise!
4. A Strong Drink
Does your friend like to toss a few back, or settle down with a nice glass of wine? Why not help her indulge! If your friend likes wine, get her a bottle of her favorite, along with a cute wine stopper or wine tote, and maybe even a fun set of cocktail napkins. These things are useful and you really can't have enough of them. Is your girl a beer girl? A cute beer glass and a six pack of specialty beers would be a great idea, or even just some of her favorite brews. You could also do something like a bottle of tequila and pretty shot glass set.
5. Reading Material
Some 30 somethings are going to be too busy to take the time to read, but others like to read to get away from all the hustle and bustle. A bag of newly released best sellers would be a perfect gift for any book worm. You can also sign her up for a magazine subscription that she could enjoy all year long, if she isn't a book reader. Also I'm loving these e subscriptions that you can buy specifically for online reading. This would be great for gals on the go! Of course, a great gift card to a book store or even an Amazon gift card would be great for readers!
I hope that this list is helpful to you! Please check me out on my blog, Bailey Dailies, when you get the chance! You can also keep up with me on facebook, twitter, instagram, and pinterest! See my signature below. Hope to see you guys soon!

How to Remove Gel Nail Polish

I know so many girls that think the only way to get off polish from a gel/shellac manicure is to go to the salon and pay to have it taken off or to peel it off at home. However, I know personally that I don't always have the time or want to go to the salon to have the polish taken off, and that it is really bad for your nails to peel it off. Due to this I have studied how they remove the polish at the salon, and have done a lot of experimenting to come up with the best possible way to remove gel nail polish on your own.

Supplies:
Nail file
Glass bowl
Acetone
Orange stick
Paper towel

Instructions:
-File down nail polish to remove all the shine.  You want the nails to be completely void of the finish and have a dull matte look.
-Take pure acetone and pour just enough to soak your nails in a glass bowl (do not make the mistake of putting it in a plastic disposable bowl, it will eat through the bowl and you will end up covered in acetone; I just wash the glass dish with soap and  hot water when I am done and it is fine).
-Beginning with this step I recommend doing one hand at a time.  Soak your nails until the polish is peeling and crumbling off your nails.  The longer you soak, the easier it will be to remove the polish in later steps.  You need to soak for at least 10 minutes.
-When the polish is peeling and crumbling off, take the orange stick and scrape it off.  Sometimes I alternate between soaking and scraping because it is easier to scrape when the nails are a little bit damp with acetone.  The polish will come off your nails in little crumbles like in the picture below.
-You want to scrape until your nails do not have any form of polish left on them.  You can also buff your nails to really remove any polish residue.

Your nails will then be free of gel polish without destroying them (by peeling them off) or having to go to the salon.  This has landed up saving me time and has made doing my nails easier, so I hope that it can help someone else too!  If you have any questions feel free to let me know.
