Recipe: Grilled Angel Food Cake

I had been hearing about grilled Angel food cake for a while and was dying to try it since Angel food cake has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid.  I decided 4th of July Weekend was the perfect time to try it with some festive berries.  I made this for my Mom and my best friend and we all loved it!  I was actually thinking for a party cutting the cake into bite sized pieces before grilling and putting them on toothpicks after they've cooled with the whipped cream as a 'dip' would be an adorable dessert. Whether you're staying in or going out this is definitely a fun summer treat and one that I highly recommend trying!

Ingredients:
Angel Food Cake Cake Mix (I like Betty Crocker)
Water
16 oz heavy cream
1 1/2 tsp. sugar
Washed assorted berries

Instructions:
-Mix Angel Food Cake Cake Mix and water according to directions on package.  Bake.
-When the cake is done baking allow to cool completely.
-While the cake is cooling pour heavy cream into a bowl and add sugar.  Using a hand mixer mix heavy cream and sugar mixture on high until stiff peaks form.  Place the whipped cream in refrigerator until ready to use.
-Once the cake has cooled, cut into individual slices.
-Warm up grill to a low/medium heat.
-Place the cake pieces on the grill, grill on each side for a few minutes (how long really depends on your grill so keep a close eye on it) until golden brown.
-Serve with whipped cream and berries.
-Enjoy!

I have to say that I think this is my new favorite summer dessert!  What is your favorite dessert to eat during the summertime?

Confess Sesh

I hope that everyone has had a great week & has some fun plans for the upcoming weekend!  I realized I haven't done a Friday confession session since all the way back in January so I figured I was way overdue for one.  Without any further ado...

|  ONE  |
I confess that summer is a major motivation killer for me.  I have so many things that I need to & actually do want to do, but I just get the overwhelming urge to bask in those lazy summer days & enjoy my time off from school.  Does anyone else feel that way this time of year?!

|  TWO  |
I confess that I have been on a major Goldfish binge lately & it makes me feel like a kid again.  They are just so tasty!

|  THREE  |
I confess that I am beyond excited that the United States Women's National Soccer Team won the World Cup & that they are getting a Ticker Tape Parade in New York City!  However I am annoyed that every time they mention it on the news it seems like they have to throw in that the team hasn't won the World Cup in sixteen years.  I don't understand why they feel it's necessary to add a negative to the story when the USWNST has won more Women's World Cups than any other team & our Men's National Soccer Team has never won a World Cup.

|  FOUR  |
I confess that I am Insta-obessesed lately (follow me at @theblushblonde!).  I am participating in another photo challenge this month & I'm just having so much fun putting together a post every day & I love that it challenges my creativity every day!

|  FIVE  |
I confess that I am loving the pictures from the Royal Christening.  The Royal Babies are just too cute & I always love Kate Middleton.

If you feel like sharing leave a confession of your own down in the comments!

Sunday at the Racetrack

If you read my post from Monday then you know that on Sunday I spent the day at Monmouth Park Racetrack with America's Best Racing.  After our amazing tour of the stables we went into the track to watch the horses race.  It was so nice to be back at the racetrack enjoying such a beautiful sport.  I love how glamorous a trip to the track is especially at Monmouth because of the many historic touches that make me feel like I've been transported back in time.

We started off our time by going to get lunch at the Dining Terrace.  We were lucky enough to get seated at the window and really enjoyed the endless views of the track.  It was quite nice to be able to watch the races in air conditioning with our lunch!  If you ever make your way to Monmouth Park I suggest eating here, our food was great and like I mentioned the views are fabulous.

When we finished our lunch we headed to place some bets and watch the races up close.  One of our favorite things to do is watch the horses and jockeys enter the track before we watch the race.  After watching quite a few races we met up with Victoria from America's Best Racing who was sweet enough to take us into the paddock, which is always a such a fun thing to do.

I love dressing up to go to the track and feel like it really adds to the experience.  For this trip I wore a romper by L'Atiste by Amy (get it in mint here!) that I recently purchased at local boutique Juli Mei in Spring Lake, NJ.  I paired it with DV by Dolce Vita Wedges (similar here) and rose gold jewelry.

I always have such a wonderful time at the races and highly recommend checking out the track out if you have one near you.  I suggest making a day of it and getting dressed up to really enjoy and appreciate the glamour and athleticism this sport has to offer.  A big thanks to America's Best Racing for an awesome day!

Tuesday Ten: July Style

I've talked about white Converse quite a few times on here since the Spring because they are such a style staple right now.  Every fashionable girl that I know has a pair and they look chic paired with shorts, rompers, dresses and more.  I absolutely love mine and wear them all the time!

Floppy sun hats serve several purposes, which is why you definitely need one for summer.  Floppy hats look glamourous and help to shade your skin and eyes from the harmful sun rays.  Throw one on at an outdoor day party or while you're hanging out on the beach to stay safe and stylish.

A white t-shirt is a must have for anytime of the year, but is a favorite of mine for summer.  The thing I love about a white t-shirt is that it's a classic that you can style so many different ways.  A white t-shirt can look just as great with jean shorts and flip flops as it does with a midi skirt and heels.

To me a navy and white striped shirt just screams summer!  It's such a fun nautical piece that looks adorable with white shorts or white jeans.  I also love it with white Converse!

5. Denim
Everything denim from tops to bottoms are huge for summer.  You can mix denim with other materials or even go for a chic matchy-matchy denim look that is very 90s.  Look to celebrities such as Jessica Alba to see how they style their denim.

Blush pink is my absolute favorite color and I'm so happy that it's a big trend for summer.  You can incorporate blush into your outfit with a blush top, skirt, romper, bag, and more.  This color is the perfect way to add a feminine touch to your outfit.

7. Lace
Lace looks lovely on rompers, dresses, and shorts.  It's a girly-chic trend that always looks great!  Pair lace shorts with a chambray shirt for a cute on trend look that's perfect for summer.

8. Matching Top and Bottom Set
Matching sets have been big for a while now and are definitely still a huge trend for summer.  They come in a variety of different styles from a top and shorts to a crop top and pants to a top and skirt. They're super easy to wear as your whole look is already planned for you, just add shoes and accessories and you're good to go!  Another big plus is that if you want a different look you can break up the set and wear them with other pieces.

9. Romper
This post explains why rompers are a major must have!  They are definitely a chic style staple for summer.

Print pants are huge for summer this year.  Allow them to be the center of your outfit by pairing them with solid neutrals for pretty look.  A lightweight pair of print pants is definitely a style necessity for the month of July.

What are your July style essentials?
