Baking Soda Beauty #3: Dry Shampoo

On one of my many trolls through Pinterest I came across a great recipe for dry shampoo for both light & dark hair.  I thought this recipe would be a great addition to my Baking Soda Beauty series.
I am a big fan of dry shampoos, as I discussed in my first post of the series it is really better to give your hair a rest & shampoo less often, & dry shampoo is a great way to spruce up your locks between shampooing.  Dry shampoos can run from very cheap to very expensive, & can contain a wide variety of ingredients including alcohol, which is bad for your hair.  I love to make different beauty things, & often prefer homemade to store brought, as it is more natural & better for you.  Here are two easy recipes, one for light hair & one for dark hair, for dry shampoo, that I got from this website (I modified the recipe a bit).

Light Hair
Ingredients:
-1/2 cup cornstarch
-1/2 cup baking soda
-10 to 20 drops essential oil of your choice (I love vanilla!)

Instructions:
-Combine cornstarch & baking soda in a bowl.
-Add the essential oil & mix well with a fork.
-Store in shaker.
-On days when you do not shampoo sprinkle mixture in your hair & brush through to evenly distribute, it may lighten your hair, but it will go away with brushing.

Dark Hair
Ingredients:
-1/4 cup cornstarch
-1/4 cup baking soda
-1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
-10 to 20 drops of essential oil of your choice (Vanilla would pair well with the cocoa!)

Instructions:
-Combine cornstarch, baking soda, & cocoa in a bowl.
-Add the essential oil & mix well with a fork.
-Store in shaker.
-On days when you do not shampoo sprinkle mixture in your hair & brush through to evenly distribute, it may lighten your hair, but it will go away with brushing.

The baking soda in the dry shampoos soaks up any excess oil really well so your hair will look good as new.  I would recommend using this in conjunction with the shampoo alternative in the first post of the series so you won't need to shampoo too often, which should really help improve your hair's health.

How many days do you go between shampoos?
