How to Combat Itchy Skin

On Friday I mentioned that I've been taking Benadryl like crazy the past few days because I have been broken out in very itchy hives.  It turns out I've been having an allergic reaction a medication I'm taking and as an old pro (I'm allergic to so many things) I'm really good at dealing with hives.  This got me thinking that with the season change allergies will be in full force and in just a few short months it will be cold, which brings a whole host of things that can irritate skin and cause it to become itchy. So today I'm sharing with you my surefire tips to get rid of that itch, which will hopefully be a help to you in weeks to come as the temperatures start to drop!
There are four products I turn to when I can't stop scratching and all of them except 1 can be brought at your local drugstore: Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion, Cortizone Maximum Strength Creme with Healing Aloe, Benadryl, and Lush Dreamwash Shower Smoothie.  I use Costco brand Benadryl (which I know isn't technically called Benadryl) because I am allergic to an ingredient in Benadryl brand and yes I'm allergic to everything, so really any medication like this should help; for everything else I recommend buying these exact products if you can.
At the end of your shower apply the Lush Dreamwash to your body, let sit for at least 30 seconds - to get the full benefits from the ingredients like calamine and chamomile, and wash off.  After showering apply the Aveeno Lotion liberally over your entire body; you can apply this all over several times a day if needed (at most I will usually do it twice a day).  When my skin is really itchy, especially from an allergic reaction or another allergy, I take Benadryl every 4-6 hours depending on how often I remember.  I know Benadryl makes a lot of people tired so if you are one of those people take it at night or when you know you can take a nap.  (Make sure to read the bottle for Benadryl and speak with your doctor if you are taking any other medications.)  I apply the Cortisone cream on really itchy and irritated areas, you can only put this on small sections of skin so make sure not to put it on your whole body at once.

Other tips:
-Limit showering to once every other day, as the hot water of the shower will dry your skin out, which can make it feel more irritated.
-Avoid perfume for a few days, as it can make your skin feel worse. Stick to unscented creams (like the Aveeno lotion) and don't spray perfume on yourself.  If you want to use something scented use an essential oil like Vanilla and dab it on pulse points.
-Soak in a lukewarm bath with Aveeno Active Naturals Soothing Bath Treatment.
-Wear loose fitting clothes so your skin has a chance to breathe.
-Try not to scratch (this is the one piece of advice I'm terrible at following!).

These tips and tricks should help you with skin issues through the all the season changes we have ahead of us!  If you use any different products to combat the itch please share below, I would love to hear about them!

Friday Ramble

This week has been crazy with schoolwork, sorority events, family visits, and more!  Today I'm going to share what I've been up to this week and some other ramblings to end the week.

On Monday my parents took a trip to visit me at school for Labor Day.  Since we live at the beach they were going in the opposite direction of the traffic, which was quite convenient.  They brought my little dog Coco Chanel with them who I absolutely adore.  It was so nice to have them all at school (especially Coco!) and to be able to hang out and walk around campus.
Tuesday was back to classes after having Monday off.  Having that day off always throws me off and I was kind of in a tailspin on Tuesday.  On top of being thrown off I had one of those days where everything was going bad; my air conditioning was leaking and the maintenance people were rude (and made me late to class), we lost power, I stubbed my toe, and well you get the gist.  Tuesday was also our first day letters of the year, for those of you wondering what this means my sorority wears our Greek letters every Tuesday, so at least I looked cute!
On Wednesday I really wasn't feeling good so landed up spending most of the day in bed and then one of my sweet sorority sisters came to have dinner with me, which was so nice.

Thursday I had my art class, which I am really enjoying.  It's amazing how much I am already learning after only four classes.  I love watching the professor draw because she is so talented (the picture here was drawn by as a demonstration).  After I was done with classes my Mom came to take me to the doctors and brought Coco to see me again.  I was so happy to get to see her twice in one week!
Up for the Weekend (including today because I don't have classes on Fridays!) I have a party, Greekend, where Greek life goes to a football game, and my Dad is coming up for the for the football game, as well.  Busy, busy!  Before I go here are some more random musings from my week:

Loving: The fact that Fall is coming.
Thinking of: Joan Rivers, I am so sad we lost this legend and cannot get her off my mind.
Missing: Lazy days of summer.
Wearing: Jumpsuits.

Carrying: Longchamp Le Pliage Tote, the large is the perfect size for all my school essentials.

Smelling: Aquolina Pink Sugar, my favorite.
Listening to: Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj, seriously obsessed with this song.
Watching: Scandal, I watched all three seasons in one week, and cannot wait for Season 4!
Eating: Pesto Pasta, I can't get enough of this and it's so easy to make.
Drinking: SmartWater, and lots of it, this heat is killing me.
Taking: Benadryl because I have weird hives that will not go away - so annoying!

How was your week?  Do you have any plans for the weekend?

Jump Into Fall

When school started last week I wore a jumpsuit on the first day of classes.  It's a beautiful navy silk romper that I got at Urban Outfitters a few weeks back and am completely in love with, sadly it isn't online, but you can see my Instagram of it here.  Before I brought that jumpsuit I had never worn one before, I was always a romper girl, but for some reason I never forayed into jumpsuits.  Well since that purchase I have developed a bit of a jumpsuit obsession; they are super chic and versatile, and the perfect transition piece to bring you from Summer into Fall.

Jumpsuits
1  |  2  |  3  |  4  |  5

I've picked these jumpsuits because are great for this time of year.  The solids I picked are neutral shades, which is a good way to start moving towards fall colors with your wardrobe; the prints are fun and can still be worn at this point in the season.  You can layer by adding a sweater if it is chilly out or going bare if it is still warmer.  The long sleeved jumpsuit, which I particularly love, is best for when temperatures really start to drop as those sleeves will keep you warm.  Flats, sandals, and heels, can all be worn with jumpsuits, which again allows you to tailor your outfit to the weather. Another thing I love about this piece is that it can easily be dressed up or down depending on your accessories making it wearable to so many different events.  For me a jumpsuit is a must have and something that you can wear countless times, countless ways, always looking stylish and on point - even during the change of season.

Do you have any jumpsuits?
